The Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima has said that the key to modern wealth is leveraging innovation.

 

The vice president announced this during the 2024 Nigerian Leadership Summit and Awards at the NAF Conference and Suites, Kado-Abuja. The event’s theme, “Connecting Risk, Resilience and Innovation for Sustainable Growth,” brought together intellectuals and industry leaders to discuss and provide solutions for effective risk management for the overall growth of the country.

In his keynote address, the Vice President of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima, who was represented by the Special Adviser to the President on economic affairs in the office of the Vice President, Tope Fasua disclosed that the two core attributes that separate leaders from managers are calculated risk-taking.

He stated that there are 39 million nano-micro, small and medium enterprises out of a global number of 332 million of them.

Shettima further lauded Nigerians for their unwavering resilience in the face of the looming economic complexities.

He said: “The two core attributes that separate leaders from managers are calculated risk-taking and visioning, and risk-taking lies the opportunities that transform human beings, institutions, and nations as a whole. Resilience is a word that has been used to describe Nigerians for decades now. The ability to keep going in spite of all odds.


“Our national balance is the presence of 39 million nano micro, small and medium enterprises out of a global number of 332 million of them. If you go by this number, we have roughly 12 per cent of the global figure of MSMEs and MSMEs. Engaging our youth by creating mass employment as Innovation is the key to modern wealth and prosperity.”

The summit host, and Managing Director, of CONRAD CLARK, Dr Joachim Adenusi, revealed that the ongoing challenges in the country inspired this year’s summit.

He said the summit explored more resilient and innovative ways of managing critical risks facing us as a nation.

“The ultimate objective of this year’s summit is to respond to the ongoing challenges we face as a nation and in doing so, we also offer a comprehensive idea for the stability of organization in Nigeria.


“Through insightful presentations and engaging discussions, we have been able to explore more resilient and more ways of managing critical risks facing us as a nation,” he said.

The event concluded with the presentation of awards to outstanding individuals who had made significant contributions, followed by the ceremonial cutting of a beautifully decorated 15th-anniversary cake.
